Nearly 100,000 people work in the culture sector of Montreal's economy, these numbers surpass the jobs created by the life sciences and aerospace clusters combined, says the report. MONTREAL | LIBERAL THINKERS WILL MEET IN MONTREAL IN MARCH 2010: Big conference in which Canadian political and social thinkers will discuss the future of Liberal party and Canada will take place in Montreal in March 2010. The Liberal Party has been organizing the conference since the summer of 2009. Michael Ignatieff, soon after his election as a leader of the party, promised to arrange such forum. MONTREAL | QUEBEC GOES GREEN: Quebec will cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2020. Quebec's plans for reduction of greenhouse gases are the most ambitious in North America and match the goals of European green policy. Quebec Premier Jean Charest said today (23 November, 2009) that the transition to using less carbon will be difficult for some business sectors, but the province can create green jobs. MONTREAL | TERRACOTTA SOLDIERS, TIFFANY AND MILES DAVIS AT MONTREAL MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS: New and exciting exhibitions are coming at Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Perhaps the most interesting show is "China: The first emperors." A selection of 300 artefacts - terracotta soldiers, bronze vessels, ceramic figurines, jade ornaments, gold swords, architectural fittings and military accoutrements, from the Chou dynasty (1045-221 BC), the first Chin empire (221 BC- 206 BC) and the Western Han dynasty (206 BC-23 AD) - will be presented between February 11 and June 26, 2011. The exposition of fourteen terracotta soldiers of the first Chin Emperor's army, life-size horses and a large number of burial figurines from the imperial tombs of the Han emperors Gaozu and Jingdi, will make this show unique for North America. | read |

MONTREAL | THE McGILL'S LOST SCROLLS: The Montreal's McGill University was the first institution outside the Middle East that attempted to buy a part of the Dead Sea Scrolls, discovered between 1947 and 1956 in the desert caves at Qumran. The Dead Sea Scrolls are apocryphal Biblical texts written between 150 BC and 70 AD. The Bedouin shepherd Muhammed edh-Dhib ("Muhammad the Wolf") first discovered the scrolls in the winter of 1946. | read more |
